Q: Do I need a referral to see an osteopath or chiropractor?
A: No, you don’t need a referral to see an osteopath or chiropractor. However, under certain schemes you may need a referral.
Q: Are services covered by private health insurance?
A: Osteopathy and chiropractic are both claimable by private health insurance. To find out if you are covered for these services, please contact your health insurance provider.
Q: What can I expect from my first appointment?
A: Before treatment, we need to understand you, your lifestyle, any concerns you may have, and your current health goals. We go will go through a thorough medical history which includes past injuries/accident/surgery, current health issues and medication. In some cases, patients will require further investigations (x-rays, MRI, blood test, etc.…) to rule out any underlying health concerns and to ensure optimal patient outcomes. In these cases, patients may be referred to their GP or other healthcare professions to arrange the appropriate imaging and/or tests.
We will then conduct an examination, which can include diagnostic, orthopedic and neurological testing, movement (passive and active ranges of movement), and postural assessments. We take a whole body approach the both the assessment and treatment of your condition. This means we will not only assess the site of your pain but also the surround structures too in order to form a complete assessment and clinical management plan. For example, if a patient presents with knee pain, we will also assess the ankle, pelvis, and back.
We provide a broad range of treatment options for our patient including manual therapy, dry needling, and acupuncture. We often provide patient with personalized exercises or stretching programs to be performed at home, lifestyle advice/interventions, and also can recommended additional resources (e.g., taping, bracing/supports, etc..) to improve management of your condition. We always aimed to involve the patient in the decision processes regarding their own health and we are always happy to answer any questions you may have during and after your consultation.
Q: What should I bring to my first appointment?
A: Just yourself. However, if you have any X-rays, scans, diagnostic imaging, test results or reports for your injury or condition, bring them along also.
Q: What should I wear to my appointment?
A: It is important you feel comfortable during your appointment, so wear a loss shirt or T-shirt, and loose pants or shorts. You may be asked to remove certain items of clothing in order for us to treat or assess a specific area of the body if this is the case you will be asked to wear a gown during your treatment.
Q: How long will my appointment be?
A: Typically, an initial appointment are around 45-60minutes, and return appointments are 30-45minutes.
Q: How many appointments will I need?
A: This will depend on you’re the nature of your condition and will be discussed during your initial consultation. Often chronic/long-term conditions require more clinical management compared with acute/short-term conditions.
Q: What are Don’s availabilities?
A: Tuesday & Friday mornings from 10.00am until approx. 12.30*pm (*these times will vary).
